UFV Cascades fall to University of Victoria Vikes, 70-59.

UFV defence gives up 51-second half points.
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades fell to the University of Victoria Vikes, 70-59, at the Envision Athletic Centre tonight.  The Cascades Canada West regular season record falls to 2-3.  Their first loss regular season at home this season.
The Cascades came out strong and establish that they can compete with the Vikes, the number two team in this week’s CIS rankings.  They Cascades built up a double digit lead early in the second quarter and held onto the lead going into the intermission up 32-19.  Led by the hard work of rookie Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC and  Alexa McCarthy, Chilliwack, BC who kept Victoria from establishing the Canada West leading offense in the first half.  The Vikes’ 19 team points was the lowest output by Victoria this season in a half.
In the second half, the more experienced Victoria team came out strong and started to establish their play as they chipped away at the Cascade 11-point lead and eventually tied the game early in the fourth quarter.  While the Cascades kept competing throughout the game, the Vikes were in control of the second half and would go onto win their 7th game of the young season by 11-points.  Victoria won the second half, by 24-points, holding the Cascades offense to 27-second half points.
UFV was led by McCarthy with 11-points.  Sarah Wierks added 9-points and a team leading 7-total rebounds and Courtney Bartel, Chilliwack, BC chipped in with 9-points and 2-assists.  The top scorer for Victoria was Kaykla Dykstra with a game high 21-point performance.  Debbie Yeboah added 10-points in the victory over UFV.  Dykstra led the Vikes with 7-total rebounds.  Victoria out rebounded UFV 35 to 27 for the game.
The Cascades will host Victoria tomorrow night (Saturday, November 13th, at 5:00PM), at the Envision Athletic Centre.
