The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s golf team earned the 2010 BCCAA provincial Silver Medal finishing two strokes behind the 2010 BCCAA Champion Vancouver Island University. The Cascades final four-tournament team score was 2231, VIU ended the 2010 campaign with 2229.
In the final golf tournament of the BCCAA season, UFV finished in third place with a two-day team score of 601, 6-strokes behind the tournament co-champions Camosun College and Capilano University, at 595. VIU finished fourth at 602, but VIU came into the weekend leading UFV by 3-strokes, so they did enough to hold onto the title, that UFV had held the previous two BCCAA seasons (2008 & 2009).
Aaron Pauls, Chilliwack, BC was the only UFV Cascade in the Capilano Tournament Top Ten with a two-day total of 148, good for 6th place overall. Ian Mulder, Abbotsford, BC and Brett Webster, Abbotsford, BC shot a two-day total of 151 each to finish in the top 15 golfers overall.
For the entire 2010 BCCAA golf season Mitch Lock, named the BCCAA Golfer of the Year, finished second overall with a four-tournament total of 548, one stroke behind the individual champion, Kyle Moody, Capilano, with 547. The Cascades’ Bret Webster was the other UFV golfer to finish in the Top Ten overall, with 554 total, good for 5th.
We are very proud of the UFV golf team for their amazing accomplishments this year. Silver medalists at the Nationals, the Provincials, and in the in individual category (Mitch Lock) as well as having BCCAA coach of the year (Chris Bertram) and athlete of the year speaks volume to quality and depth of the program,” said Athletic Director Rick Nickelchok.
