UFV Cascades defeat TRU Wolfpack, 92-79, to sweep two game series at Envision Athletic Centre

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball program defeated the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack, 92-79, to sweep the two game regular season series and improve their Canada West record to 4-6.  While the Cascades never trailed in this game, the Wolfpack played a very competitive first half matching UFV basket for basket and keeping the tempo high and the game close as UFV went into he intermission up by 5-points.

In the second half, UFV came out strong and out scored TRU by 11-points in the third quarter to put some distance between the two teams. Unlike Friday night when the game went down to the wire, UFV kept the caliber of play high and would build the lead up to as many 18-points before winning by 13-points to close out the home portion of the first half schedule with two straight wins.  The Cascades will travel to Langley, BC, next weekend, to face TWU before the holiday break takes effect.
The Cascades were led by Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC with 18-points and 4-rebounds and 2-assists.  Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC added 17-points, while Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, CA chipped with 16-points and 10-assists.  Sheldon Bjorgaard, Abbotsford, BC also hit double figures with 13-points.  Bjorgaard and Freeman each pulled down 7-total rebounds to lead the Cascades.
For a second straight night Greg Stewart, Kamloops, BC led TRU with 19-points and 20-total rebounds.
“I was happier with our defensive intensity tonight.  We still made some mistakes, but will keep working in practice and try to improve towards playing 40 minutes of our best basketball, ” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
