UBC defeats UFV Cascades, 96-82, in Vancouver, BC.

Sweep two game regular season series.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball team were swept over the weekend, by the UBC Thunderbirds, falling 96-82, on Saturday night.  The Cascades now sport a 2-6 record in Canada West regular season play.

The Thunderbirds came out strong and held UFV to 9-first quarter points and established a quick double digit lead of 19-points after the first quarter.  While UFV played even with UBC in the second quarter they went into the locker room, trailing by 19-points, at the intermission.  Ryan Fahandeg, Kelowna, BC and Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, CA each scored 5-points to lead UFV at the half.
In the second half, UFV would go on two 10-point runs and close the lead to 10-points midway through the fourth quarter but UBC was too strong down the stretch hitting key baskets to bring the lead back to 14-points the eventual final deficit for UFV.
The Cascades were led by Gray with 26-points and 3-assists.  Fahandeg would add 15-points and 5-rebounds while Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC would chipped in with 14-points, 4-assists and a team high 8-total rebounds.
UBC out rebounded UFV 40 to 28 for the game.
UFV   9  16  29  28   =  82  (2-6)
UBC  28  16  28  24  =  96  (8-2)
