The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack, 76-71, at Envision Athletic Centre to end a three-game losing streak and improve to 3-6 in Canada West regular season play. The Cascades started quickly and opened up a lead in the first quarter and led by 7-points after one. In the second quarter, TRU came alive out scoring UFV by 8-points to go into the locker room, at halftime, up by 1-point, 37-36. Cascades defeat TRU Wolfpack, 76-71, at Envision Athletic Centre
The Cascades came out strong in the third quarter and dominated the quarter out scoring TRU by 12-points and while the Wolfpack made several runs in the final quarter, UFV held on for the victory. The team played well moving the ball around in the final quarter and making key shots to avoid the Wolfpack’s Greg Stewart, Kamloops, BC who recorded 26-total rebounds and was a dominant force under the basket. The outside play of UFV guards Freeman, Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, CA and Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC enabled UFV to keep the lead throughout the second half and go into tomorrow night’s game looking for the two game regular season sweep.
“TRU is well coached and runs there offense well. When they adjusted and went zone, I thought we became to complacent, and started to settle on the offensive end. We will have to perform better tomorrow night if we want to be successful, ” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
The Cascades top scorer was Freeman with a team high 17-points. Three other Cascades were in double figures led by Gray’s 14-points, Friesen’s 13-points and James Elliott, Perth Western Australia with 11. Friesen led the Cascades with 8-total rebounds as they pulled down 38 boards for the game.
Stewart led TRU with a game high 19-points and 26-total boards.
