The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades were defeated by the University of Manitoba Bisons, 83-80, to fall to 0-2 in the Canada West regular season play. The game was very similar to last night’s game, with the lead changing hands numerous times, entertaining up and down basketball with the Bisons coming out on the winning side both nights by a total of 4-points.
The game was even in the first quarter with UFV up by 2-points going into the second quarter, a quarter in which Manitoba made a run near the end of the half to go into the intermission up 6-points, 37-31.
The first half of the third quarter belonged to UFV as they built a 13-point lead midway through the quarter only to see Manitoba come back and even the score at 62 each after three quarters. The final quarter was again very entertaining with Manitoba building a 9-point lead only to see the home team come within one point of tying or taking the lead before the Bisons sank a couple baskets to hold on for the weekend sweep.
The Cascades were led by Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC with a game high 29-point performance and 10-team leading rebounds. James Elliott, Perth, Western Australia added 22-points and 8-rebounds while Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC chipped in with 13-points and 2-assists. The Cascades out rebounded Manitoba 42 to 29 for the game.
The Bisons were led by Eric Garcia, Winnipeg, Manitoba with a team high 26-points.
