Basketball’s Nicole Wierks and Dean Kmyta are the UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the Week

Wierks, the veteran forward led the UFV Cascades to victories over TRU Wolfpack, on the weekend, to improve the Cascades Canada West record to 4-6.  The Chilliwack native pulled down a team leading 15 rebounds, and added 3-assists, 12-points in the 65-64 and 70-55 wins over their Kamloops rivals.

Kmyta, a second year guard from Kelowna, BC started his first game of the year, in Friday’s 76-71 victory over TRU.  Dean shot 66 percent from three point arch and hit four -three-point baskets over the weekend, as UFV swept TRU winning as well on Saturday, 92-79.  The Sociology major scored 14-weekend points and pulled down 2-rebounds and recorded 4-assists.  UFV’s record now stands at 4-6, in Canada West regular season play.
