Women’s Basketball team defeat UBC-O, 76-55, at TRU Tournament.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the University of British Columbia-Okanagan Heat, 76-55, at the Thompson Rivers University tournament, in Kamloops, BC.

The Cascades non-conference exhibition record improves to 3-3 and on Sunday they look to win the TRU tournament when they face Kwantlen University, a team they defeated by 58-points last week, at Envision Athletic Centre.

The Cascades led from opening whistle to final with a 11-point halftime advantage, 29-18 and they continued to dominate in the second half on route to their 21-point victory.  The Cascades were led by Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba with a team high 14-point performance.

Three other UFV Cascades were in double figures, Alexa McCarthy, Chilliwack, BC with 12-points, Lauren Rieu, Port Coquitlam, BC with 11-points and Alyssa Gaukel, Chilliwack, BC with 10.  Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC led UFV with 13 total boards as the Cascades out rebounded the Heat 58 to 32 for the game.

“It was nice to win the game and put ourselves in position to win the tournament, ” said Head Coach Al Tuchscherer.
