The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s volleyball team defeated the CBC Bearcats, 3-2, on Saturday night to earn a spilt of the weekend series, falling, 3-0, on Friday, by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-14. On Saturday, UFV defeated CBC, 3-2, by scores of 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 26-24 and 15-12. With the Saturday night victory, the Cascades PACWest regular season record improves to 2-2.
The Cascades were competitive in the first two sets of Friday night’s game but could not solve the Bearcats offense. “We started out doing what we expected to do, getting the job done, but just couldn’t finish that first set,” said Greg Russell UFV Head Coach on Friday night’s performance.
Dillion Collett, Cloverdale, BC led the Cascades with 10 digs on Friday night. Aaron Flanagan, Langley, BC recorded 8 kills.
On Saturday, the Cascades competed with the Bearcats after falling behind by two sets, UFV came roaring back to take the third and fourth sets. The more experienced UFV team was able to earn the last few key points in the fifth set to earn the victory over their cross town rivals. UFV seemed to get stronger with each set on Saturday night. The while only winning he final set by three points UFV was very much in control of the last frame.
“I am very proud of our team. They fought hard tonight and won the key battles,” said Greg Russell, UFV Head Coach.
