Cascades win TRU Women’s Basketball tournament with 53-point victory over Kwantlen University.

The UFV Cascades women’s basketball team defeated the Kwantlen University Eagles, 93-40, to capture the 2010 Thompson Rivers Women’s Basketball tournament championship.  The Cascades swept their threeweekend games by a total of 74-points.  Their non-conference exhibition record improves to 4-3 on the season.

Led by Courtney Bartel, Chilliwack, BC who scored a team high 21-points, 6 steals and 6 assists.  Other Cascades in double figures were Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba with 15-points, Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC and Ashley Smith, Pitt Meadows, BC with 10-points each.

Wierks pulled down 6 total rebounds as UFV out rebounded KPU, 39-35 for the game.  The Cascades shot 52% from the field capping off a perfect weekend.
“I am very proud of the team they played well and gained valuable experience over the weekend,” said UFV Head Coach Al Tuchscherer.
