Cascades defeated UBC-O Heat, 3-1, in home opener at Envision Athletic Centre.

The UFV Cascades men’s volleyball team opened the 2010-11 BCCAA campaign with a 3-1 victory over the UBC-O Heat, at Envision Athletic Centre.  “We were looking to send a message to the league and we accomplished that with this match,” said UFV Head Coach Greg Russell.

The Cascades Justin Jansen, Surrey, BC led the way with 18 kills, 7 digs and 3 aces, and he passed a 2.9 out of a possible 3.0.  Alec Dumerton, Abbotsford, BC had 14 digs and passed  2.7 out of 3.0 to help lead the Cascades to their 25-22, 27-25, 16-25, 25-21 victory over the heat.
“We executed under pressure very well, especially with our serve reception.  Our ball control was evidently a key to our success this afternoon, said Russell.  “The whole team had to contribute to the success of this match.”

Aaron Flanagan, Langley, BC had timely blocks to close out the first set and Trevor Nickel, Abbotsford, BC contributed timely blocks at the end of 4th set to finish the game off and send UFV to its first league victory.
