Cascades defeat Dinos, 3-1, at Bateman Park, move into three-way tie for Third Place in Canada West.

The University of the Fraser Valley dream season continues as they defeated and eliminated the University of Calgary Dinos, 3-1, at Bateman Park, in Abbotsford, BC.  With the victory UFV moves into a three-way tie with UBC and Saskatchewan for third place in Canada West.  Only two of three teams can go forward into next weekends Canada West “Final Four” Tournament.

Alberta will host the event in Edmonton and TWU has clinched second place in Canada West.  Calgary was eliminated with today’s loss they trail the three by 4-points with one match remaining.  A Cascade victory, on Sunday against Lethbridge, would go along way to insuring the potential of being one of those two going to Edmonton next weekend.

Today records fell all over Bateman Park, with their 7th victory of the season it establishes a new single season mark for Canada West victories in their 5 year affiliation with CW/CIA.  The victory also clinches the program’s first Canada West/CIS winning regular season record.
The game was a typical very close high flying Canada West match between two goods teams trying to stay alive in the race for a post season berth.  The Cascades started quickly moving the ball around and pressuring the Calgary defense. Carly Neeson, Maple Ridge, BC opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season,.  Calgary responded a minute later to tie the match at one.  The game was tied at the half.
In the second half, UFV came out strong and establish the tempo of play scoring seven minutes in on a penalty kick by Megan Webster, Abbotsford, BC and then again with 8 minutes remaining the fourth year veteran captain burred her sixth of the year to clinch the Cascade victory.
“It was a tough game today. We battled hard and earned the three points today,” said UFV Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht.  “Megan (Webster) showed the mental strength of a seasoned veteran by calmly finishing the Penalty kick after having to re-take it.  Her finish on the third goal was outstanding.  Megan is finding her form and impacting these important games.”
