Vikes sweep season series from Cascades, as UFV loses 1-0 in Provincial Capital.

The University of Victoria Vikes defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, 1-0, in Victoria, BC today to sweep the two-game CWUAA regular season series from the Cascades.  UFV’s regular season record falls to 1-3-0.

The Cascades played an excellent match, challenging Victoria all afternoon.  The time of possession was very similar to the match in Abbotsford a week earlier and the opportunities for UFV to score the game’s first goal was there.  The Vikes goalkeeper Stephanie Parker made several key saves on Cascade forwards to keep her team in the lead at the half.
The Vikes would score the lone goal of the match, 11 minutes into the first half, on a goal by Jaclyn Sawicki as she beat the Cascades goalkeeper, Chantelle Biagioni, Pitt meadows, BC to the short side of the net.  Lindsay Hoetzel earned the assist on the Victoria goal.
The Cascades went back to work in the second half challenging Parker and the Victoria defense but they could not push the tying goal past the Vikes’ defense.

Lyndsay Munro, Maple Ridge, BC was named the Cascades Player of the Match.

“We played a great match today, ” said Assistant Coach Alan Alderson.   “The Cascades created great opportunities to score and played well all afternoon.”
