UFV Cascades fall to Concordia University, 2-0, in Portland, Oregon

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s soccer team were defeated by the NAIA Number 3 ranked Concordia University Cavaliers, 2-0, in Portland, Oregon.   The Cascades non-conference exhibition record falls to 3-2-0 with one exhibition match remaining tomorrow against Trinity Lutheran College (Everett, WA).

The match was even in the first half with teams having opportunities to open the scoring.  The Cascades goalkeeper Chantelle Biagioni, Pitt Meadows, BC was excellent in nets stopping several point blank Cavalier shots to preserve the scoreless tie at the intermission.
In the second half, the Cascades created several chances to score led by the hard work of Danika Snook, the second year Forward from Chilliwack, BC, who gave the Cascades an opportunity to score but they could not slip the ball past the Concordia goalkeeper.
The first goal of the match came at the 60th minute as the referee awarded Concordia a penalty kick on what was called a “hand ball” in the box!  The home team would score a second goal with 13 minutes remaining to clinch the victory over UFV.
“It was a good test against a Top 5 NAIA school, ” said Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht.  “Lyndsay Munro (Maple Ridge, BC), Snook and Biagioni all played very well.”
