The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack, 12-4, to earn the first annual “Coquihalla Cup. The Coquihalla Cup was created by both the Cascades Head Coach Chris Bertram and the Wolfpack’s Head Coach Bill Bilton Junior. The event, similar to the Ryder Cup, was played over two days at the TRU’s home course the Dunes, in Kamloops, BC.
The Cascades held a 3-1 lead after the first day of the two-day event, in team play. Led by Mitch Lock, Mission, BC and Brett Stewart, Abbotsford, BC fresh off their international trip to Taiwan, they guided the Cascades to victory on day two as UFV won 9-3 to earn the 8-point victory. “While victory over TRU was great, the main goal was to get in some reps at the Dunes,” said Coach Bertram. Thompson Rivers will be hosting the 2010 CCAA Golf National Championship at the Dunes, in October.
In addition to Stewart, Drew St Cyr, Langley, BC and Mike Broadfoot, Abbotsford, BC each earned 3-points during the two day event for the Cascades.
