The University of Calgary Dinos handed the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades their first loss of the 2010 CWUAA regular season, 4-2, in Calgary, Alberta. The Cascades regular season record falls to 1-1-0.
The Cascades fell quickly behind the Dinos as they surrendered two goals early in the first half, before second year midfielder Sasa Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC scored his second goal of the season to bring the Cascades to within one goal of Calgary before the half. In the second half, UFV came out strong and third year forward Craig Robinson, Chilliwack, BC tied the match at two goals each. The Cascades continued to press the Dinos defense, midway through the second half, first year forward Amrit Sidhu, Abbotsford, BC nearly gave the Cascades the lead but his shot went wide for a Calgary goal kick.
The Dinos regrouped after the UFV near miss to press the Cascades, but the match was not decided until the referee awarded Calgary a penalty kick in the 89th minute. The Dinos would add one more goal as UFV was pressing for the equalizer.
“An encouraging second half where we showed some character to come back. ” said Head Coach Alan Errington.
