Texas Christian University Horned Frogs defeats UFV Cascades, 88-74, to sweep two game exhibition series.

The Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (Mountain West Conference-NCAA) defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (CWUAA-CIS), 88-74, to sweep the two game exhibition series at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The Cascades came out strong and established their presence right from the opening whistle as they built up a 10-point lead early and led after the first quarter, 20-17.  In the second quarter, the Cascades were able to stay with TCU who shot close too 40 percent to regain the lead midway though the quarter.  The Horned Frogs led by 5-points, 38-33 at the intermission.
In the second half, UFV again came out strong and stayed with the more experienced TCU team, while they trailed by 12-points after three quarters, the Cascades were moving the ball well and scoring key baskets to stay in the contest.  In the fourth quarter, UFV made a run and knocked the lead down to 8-points, before TCU hit two key baskets to secure the win and sweep the two game exhibition series.
“I was very impressed with the Cascades they played well tonight,” said TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie.
The Cascades were led by Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with a game high 26-point performance.  Courtney Bartel, Chilliwack, BC added 14-points and Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC 11-points for the Cascades.  Klassen also led the Cascades in rebounds with 13-total boards as UFV registered 50 for the game.
The Horned Frogs were paced by Emily Carter, Bossier City, La with a team high 17-points.  Other TCU players in double figures were Delisa Gross, Waco, Texas 15-points, Hannah Christian, Aledo, Texas 13-points and Helena Sverrisdottir, Hafnarfjordur, Iceland added 11-points in the victory.  Christian & Antoinette Thompson, Fort Worth, Texas each pulled down 8-boards as TCU registered 59 rebounds for the game.
The Cascades Women’s Basketball team will next play in late September when they host Kwantlan College, on the 22nd.
