The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer team opened their 2010 exhibition season with a 7-2 victory over Capilano University Blues. The match was played at Bateman Park, in Abbotsford, BC.
The Cascades came out strong and controlled the match from the opening whistle. UFV opened the scoring 20 minutes in when Sasa Plasvic, Coquitlam, BC set up Ryan Liddiard, Kamloops, BC and the first year Arts major made no mistake scoring the Cascades first of 7 goals on the day. UFV continued to pressure the Capilano defense, keeping the Blues in their 18 yard box almost the entire first half. Mohammed Aziz, Abbotsford, BC scored the second Cascade goal at the 27th minute, followed by Stuart Rowlands, Chilliwack, BC two minutes later as five different Cascades scored in the first half.
The only UFV mistake in the first half resulted in a give away in front of Cascade goalkeeper Colton Keam, Langley, BC who was beat by the Blues’ Jamie Casey for Capilano’s lone first half tally.
In the second half, UFV continued to control the match and scored two more goals on route to a 7-2 exhibition preseason victory. ” I was very happy with our team play today,” said Head Coach Alan Errington. “We performed well at this early stage of the season, no one had a bad game on the pitch today.” Liddiard was named the Cascade “Player of the Match” for his goal and setting up Rowlands goal which turned out to be the winning score.
