Abbotsford’s Rob Giesbrecht takes over as head coach of the University of the Fraser Valley Women’s Soccer Team

ABBOTSFORD, BC- After the departure of former head coach Colin Miller, University of the Fraser Valley Director of Athletics Rick Nickelchok had big shoes to fill to find the next successful leader of the women’s soccer program. He has done just that, appointing Rob Giesbrecht for the position. An Abbotsford native with a wealth of knowledge, Giesbrecht travels back home from Nebraska after leading Concordia University to its five most successful seasons the program has ever seen.

“I consider it a great honour to have been selected to be the head coach of the UFV women’s soccer program,” stated Giesbrecht. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come home to Abbotsford and coach with UFV Athletics.”

Included in a very impressive resume, Rob Giesbrecht is a former assistant coach of the Trinity Western Spartans, where he helped lead their squad to a National Championship. Integrated with his role as the assistant coach, Rob also led the Athletes in Action soccer program as the Managing Director.

Rob then moved on to sit at the helm of Concordia University’s women’s soccer program, while also taking on the role of a career advisor. At Concordia, Rob was responsible for assisting students with career exploration, course planning, selecting majors, and adjusting to university life. This is yet another attribute that gave Director of Athletics Rick Nickelchok the easy decision to appoint Giesbrecht as head coach.

“I am pleased that Rob has agreed to assume the leadership of the UFV Cascade women’s soccer program,” stated University of the Fraser Valley Director of Athletics Rick Nickelchok. Rob brings to our program many years of successful women soccer coaching experience including winning the CIS National championship. His knowledge of the university environment and experience as an academic and career advisor provides us with value added expertise that can benefit all our student athletes”.

Rob enters the program with a philosophy to create a positive, competitive environment where the student-athletes will enjoy the challenge of striving to reach beyond their potential. Valuing excellence, team-work and character, Rob has a determined, positive goal in mind, “… to build UFV women’s soccer into a competitive force in Canada West and the CIS. We will be a program that UFV and the community will be proud of.”
