VICTORIA,BC- It was desire and determination that pulled the University of the Fraser Valley Men’s Volleyball Team to victory, as they won three straight games following a first set loss to the Douglas College Royals. The 3-1 win for the Cascades marks Match #2 of the BCCAA Provincial Volleyball Championships hosted by Camosun College.
The first decision went to the Royals, 25-23. A tight game that gave the Cascades enough jump to battle back in the second game and win by the same score line. With the score tied at a game a piece, the University of the Fraser Valley took over. They won the third game convincingly by six points, 25-19, and continued their winning ways as the topped the Royals in the final game 26-24.
“Our guys just played great defensively tonight, just dug a ton of balls, and I think that was the difference.” Stated head coach Greg Russell. “We just showed desire.”
The Cascades were led by third year Jason Togeretz with 19 kills, 9 digs, 2 blocks and one ace.
With the win, the Cascades advance to match #6 to face the second-seeded VIU Mariners, Friday, February 26 at 3pm.
